Accredited Home Care

"In becoming accredited, Physicians Choice Health Services was evaluated against a set of national standards by a Joint Commission surveyor experienced in the delivery of home care services", says Maryanne Poppovich, R.N., executive director, Home Care Accreditation Program, Joint Commission.

"Achieving accreditation demonstrates Physicians Choice's
commitment to providing high quality and safe care to its patients".

How does a home care organization become JCAHO accredited?

To earn and maintain accreditation, a home care organization
undergoes an extensive on-site review by a select team of JCAHO
professionals, such as nurses, respiratory therapists, or pharma-
cists at least once every three years. The purpose of the review is
to evaluate the organization's performance in areas that affect
patient care. Through an assessment of a company's procedures
and personal visits with its patients and staff, the company is eval-
uated and scored. Accreditation my then be awarded based on how
well the organization met JCAHO standards.

Who is the Joint Commission?

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) is an independent, not-for-profit organization established over 50 years ago. JCAHO is the world leader in evaluating the quality and safety of care delivered in over 18,000 healthcare organizations across the country - from home care providers to hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, outpatient clinics, and behavioral health centers. JCAHO is governed by a board that includes physicians, nurses, and consumers. JCAHO sets the standards by which health care quality is measured in America - an around the world.
